There is one city. You visit different sections of it, as well as predetermined areas outside the city. There isn't free roam. If you consider endless walking through reptitive fields sexy, you may also be interested to know your character can have sex in the game.Dragon Age II questions?
The map for DA2 is small. But, the game isn't an open world, it has a defined beginning and end. The map is only as big as it needs to be to tell the story. You can run around exploring if you really want to and occasionally run in to some side quests. But for the most part you will only travel as much as needed to complete a quest.
