What does Dragon Age II have to do with the darkspawn?

This might be a dumb question, but I am actually curious. Dragon Age II is fun. I've been having a lot of fun with it. But I don't understand what it has to do with the blight. So, basically Hawke escaped to Kirkwall, because the darkspawn slaughtered everybody in Lothering..

That's it? No revenge? I'm in Act 3, and all I've done is get involved in politics with the templars and mages, and get in this whole confrontation with the Qunari. Don't I become a Grey Warden? Dragon Age II has nothing to do with the Grey Wardens. It barely even has anything to do with the first game. I used my save imported from Origins, and I don't see how my decisions affected anything at all. Just that Alistair is king

This doesn't feel like its part of the series..What does Dragon Age II have to do with the darkspawn?
Dragon Age 2 just deals with Hawke's rise to power (as the champion of Kirkwall, etc.) and the new threat of war (templars vs mages).

Yeah, I miss the darkspawn and their awesome bosses too. They looked creeper in DA: Origins. I miss my awesome warden and Alistair's pretty face.

I was pretty darn disappointed with DA2 to say the least. Combat was more visceral and fun, but the story suffered. My imported saves hardly affected the storyline and I no longer felt like DA2 was a part of the DA universe. (I didn't really like the romance options either hahaha. Stupid Anders -_-)

Hopefully DA3 won't turn out to be disappointing. At the very least, I would like to see my Grey Warden in action again :DWhat does Dragon Age II have to do with the darkspawn?
The game never focused on the blight nor the darkspawn. That was the purpose of the first game. This one tells the story of Hawke's rise to glory in the City-State of Kirkwall.

The Dragon Age title signifies the period of time in the world. Not the Blight, nor the Darkspawn.
