I'm currently building a dedicated Gaming Rig optimized just for Sc2 and my budget is around $1000. I prefer to keep it under $1000 but it can go up to maximum of $1500 and doesn't matter how long my Gaming PC lasts if it's worth the money in the long-run.
I want to make sure I don't get below 60 fps when playing Sc2 because I'm a very competitive player. So is Intel i5 2400 powerful enough to keep doing 60+ fps when playing Sc2 in intensive settings? e.g. ultra graphic, 4 vs 4 and 200/200 supply.
I'm going to use a single monitor in 1920x1080 resolution. And I'm going to play Sc2, DotA 2 and HoN majority of the time. I will also try out other games like LoL, Skyrim, Dragon Age II, GW 2, Tera, WoW and Diablo III.
I'm planning to buy these components:

I'm trying to get everything from this site: www.pccasegear.com so that my shipping fee will stay the same.
It's a bit too under budget but:
1. this Gaming Rig is going to be sufficient for competitive Sc2 gaming.
2. my next upgrade will likely be GPU first then CPU. So I won't need to replace the Mobo, RAM, PSU or Case for a long time.
3. I can just upgrade to ivy bridge when 2400 becomes obsolete from the $124 that I saved.
4. It's only going to be played in 1920x1080 resolution on a single monitor.
So there's no reason for me to pay extra $124 to go for the 2500K setup since it would probably only last maximum of 1 year longer. But by then I would already be upgrading my 2400 to ivy which will be much more powerful than 2500K for a cheaper price.
So do you agree with this setup been cost effective? Do you have suggestions for better components?
With this much saving I could probably shell out $124 to get 2500K but it's not worth it is it?

- I know that 1600 RAM won't benefit from H61 Mobo, but that's the only good value RAM I can find from PCCG.

this is a good setup (could be a copy of mine).
as the ASRock H61 U3S3 support the K series Sandy Bridge processors it will make sense to get the i5-2500K, it's not $124 more but only $24 ($195 vs. $219).
your setup is missing a CD/DVD burner and the operating system, unless you have these already.

the psu Antec Neo Eco 520W is absolutely sufficient despite other statements. the power consumption of this computer is 400W under full load (100%), including an i5-2500K overclocked to 4.2Ghz.
Try going to Newegg.com, they have good warranties, they're cheap, and they have bundle options.
Also, you're buying some things you don't really NEED to get if all you're playing is SC2. I mean, you can if you really want to, but 8GB of ram? You won't need more than 4GB. Also, you may want to up the wattage on that power supply, 600 or so will last you a while. Lastly, I don't know how many cores or Ghz your processor is (kinda new to those lol), but you should get at least a 2.6Ghz dual core or a 2.4Ghz quad core, with the quad being the better choice.Help me build %26lt;$1000 Sc2 Gaming Rig?
it will be fine EXCEPT for the PSU ND THE hd6950 IS BETTER / 750 watt PSU is needed
Okay you need to calm the **** down... because for 1. ITS JUST A GOD DAMN GAME STOP BEING COMPETITIVE AND ENJOY IT! 2. my GTX550 Ti handles the game on extreme... but I only play it on ultra cause theirs no difference... However 560 good choice. 3. looks pretty good. be wary of the power supply, although it should be ok if youre not OC'ing or XFire or anything...
also, im assuming that youve come from Whirlpool probably? if not, stick to Whirlpool, they know so much stuff its so intense, alot more than most people on here (including me! lol)
but yeah looks like a pretty good build. my reccomendations would be an antec neo eco (min 520 id say) and only 1333hz is needed, 4gb is pretty good

rule of the thumb on a gaming is to spend all your pennies on the GPU, and the GPU should cost between 1.5 and 2X the cost of the CPU. your build above will cover that OK
also id buy a HAF X or even something like an antec 900 or something (maybe even fractal) cause i enjoy a good spacious case that looks wicked and has really good airflow
